The Membership MUST Grow!

A hot topic at this month’s member meeting (which many members chose NOT to attend) was the disturbing trend of declining ACTIVE members. The consensus was that we, as a club, must become pro-active about growing the membership to reverse this trend. It became a focus during the discussion that we should target one of our best, long-term allies - Fort Lee. We have a great inside contact in the form of our newest (actually an old-timer with MVRCC) member who has stepped up to guide us into the workings of our benefactors planning and decision-making processes, and who’s who.
In the end, I volunteered to be the Chairman of the newly-formed Membership Committee and I’m putting out the call to those of you who concur with the opinion that the membership must grow! I want you! With that goal in mind, I will be setting up some automated mailing lists that will allow us to communicate and share ideas rapidly. The season is upon us and the time is NOW to make this happen.

Stay tuned…
I’ll be configuring several listservs (dedicated to the members, administrators and specific committees) to allow for the rapid distribution of communication of “club critical” information. The lists will be opt-in and I will post detailed instructions as a comment to this post.

The best idea I heard was from one of our newest members. Mike. He was like, “We fly at Fort Lee and all the young men and women would probably love to come out and learn to fly. We should put on a Ft. Lee learn to fly day.”

Hey Guys…glad the site is up and running.
Before we attack Fort Lee en masse-my feeling is that we should go thru our Archives and past correspondence and see what MVRCC has done in the PAST to show its GREAT APPRECIATION for the FORTY YEARS of having a HUGE FREE FLYING FIELD…….are you with me?
The best thing the club can do right off the bat is THANK FORT LEE FIRST.
AND MAKE IT A BIG DAMN DEAL!!!!!!!!!!
That said,
I agree…we need to get some cash flowing in the form of new members and activities—

I recommend that we put a sign up at Hobbytown in Richmond with info for people who are having trouble learning to fly RC—WEB info -Links-a Help button-a MAP to the field—we need to advertise.
We especially need to promote the AMA cause the hobby shops don’t really even mention it to their cusomers.

And guess what… I was in Hobby corner picking up a few bits and noticed a gentleman interested in all the airplanes, but largely being ignored by the RCcar-headed staffer.
He approached the clerk and inquired about area flying clubs, receiving the reply from RCcar dude reading from a list posted on the counter, “Yeah, here it is, Central Virginia Radio Control, in Midlothian”
I snagged the man making the inquiry and, after setting him straight about the club scene, invited him to Fort Lee on Sunday.
