MVRCC Spring Fun-Fly
If you have not been contacted by one of our club officers and want to attend the MVRCC Spring Fun Fly, please call 804-530-0752 and leave your name and AMA number. We are expecting a good crowd at the Fort Lee field and the flying events are going to be exciting.
A $5.00 landing fee will be charged at the TX impound area to help defray the cost of the food and prizes. A 50/50 raffle will also be held and tickets may also be purchased at the TX impound.
We will be flying two events that require paper cups attached to the planes, so if you have special gear for carrying a cup, please bring it, otherwise, Cups and other raw materials will be provided by the club.
We also need staffing for Scorekeeper and Assistant Scorekeeper, Pit Boss and Assistant Chef. Positions have been filled for Chef, TX Impound and Air Boss. Please call the above number and leave a message if you want to help staff the Fun Fly.
Upon registration, you will be given a schedule with the list of flying events and event rules. Open flying will be allowed before and after the flying events. The first event is scheduled to start at 10:00am.
Starting at 12:30, you will have a chance to eat lunch and watch the halftime show. We have several big noise pilots that will put on a great show! Don’t miss it!

Events
Climb and Glide – Each pilot is allowed to climb out for 30 seconds and then shut engine down to idle. Pilot will then glide to touchdown at idle. Time starts when wheels leave the ground. Highest time wins the event. During glide phase, pilots may only use throttle in an emergency. Illegal use of throttle causes DQ. Landing must be on runway.
Virginia Air Show – Each pilot shall start engine and taxi to flight line, then eat a soda cracker. The pilot may start a takeoff and begin looping after successfully whistling. The pilot then eats another cracker and cannot stop looping and land until he whistles again. Lowest time wins the event. Spitting cracker out causes DQ.
Aerial Golf – Pilots drop a golf ball onto the runway from a Styrofoam cup fastened to the plane. After landing, the pilot must then use a putter to see how many strokes it takes to get the ball in a bucket at the beginning of the runway. Time also runs from takeoff to final putt. The winner is determined by the lowest number of strokes. In case of a tie, the lowest time of the tied contestants. Divots must be replaced.
Dice Roll – Six maneuvers will be selected. Each pilot rolls the dice to see what maneuver he will execute. A second roll of the dice will determine how many times he must execute that maneuver. Time begins when wheels leave the ground and ends when wheels stop rolling. Lowest time wins the event.
Fast And Slow – Plane flies a straight course twice. First pass is for all out speed and diving is allowed. Second pass is flown as slowly as possible. Harriers are allowed, hovering is not. Largest difference in the two times wins the event.
Hill Of Beans – Plane takes off with 25 beans in a cup and flies a loop, then lands. Most beans left in the cup wins the event. Ties must be flown off.
Hockey Tickets – A 30 foot piece of toilet paper will be hoisted by a helium balloon. Balloon is released and the pilot may takeoff. Pilot has two minutes to see how many cuts he can make.
